Welcome and Bon Voyage SMS Sending System (SGA-WMBV) |
SGA-WMBV is a system for GSM operators, designed for sending welcome text messages to incoming roamers and farewell text messages to subscribers leaving the network. The system (consisting of one ore more monitoring unit(s) and the WMBV server) is customizable and scalable to the given network on a high level of degree, allowing e.g. the usage of various language templates depending on the operator prefix.
Features
Welcome and information SMS for both types of roamers:
- Visitors from foreign networks (Welcome-SMS);
- Local subscribers in foreign networks (Bon Voyage- or Farewell-SMS).
Customizability (per user, service parameters); reliability; scalability
Blacklist, multilinguality, conditional SMS for dedicated events or occasions (e.g., Xmas)
Implications of the actual implementation
Customizability
- per user: via and by GSM network provider's Customer Care service;
- of service parameters: by SGA-WM/BV's administrator at GSM network provider.
Reliability:
- complete duplication of whole system (just one click to switch to warm reserve in case of failure).
Database access via standard SQL queries;
Components can be remotely maintained.
Example messages
"Panafon Vodafone welcomes you to Greece. Dial directly 1230 and 1244 for T-Mobile Hungary services. For assistance call 134 and for any tourist info call 333."
"Telestet welcomes you to Greece. Enjoy your stay. Dial 1230 for your personal mobile guide. Roam with Telestet and win trips to Greece..."
"Turkcell welcomes you to and wishes you happy roaming in Turkey!"
"We hope you enjoyed your stay in Turkey! You can better control roaming costs by signing up for pre-paid-roaming with our partner T-Mobile Hungary."
Operating principles
Collects and assembles Location Update related messages from SS7 network:
- Distributed monitoring of all international links.
Uses SQL database to store quasi-static data (like blacklist and SMS texts), and to keep users' dynamic data up-to-date (e.g., when last Welcome-SMS was sent); authenticates administrators; selects Short Message(s) to be sent.
Sends Farewell- and Welcome-SMS via operator's SMSC.
A simplified SS7 Location Update procedure is depicted in the following figure
Miscellaneous functions
-
Statistics:
- can be sent to operator's PMS;
- optionally SCCP statistics for counting particular MSU's on a per-operator basis.
- Alerting:
- alarms are sent to network operator's NOC by SNMP traps.
- Logging:
- adjustable detail levels from 'Off' to 'Debug'.
Hardware components
The basic hardware components of the SGA-WM/BV system are
- The Monitoring units (containing the SGA cards), simply referred to as "Monitors", which are connected to the:
- operator's bidirectional PCM/SS7 links;
- SGA-WM and/or SGA-BV server.
- The SGA-WM server (including the SGA-WM/BV database), which is connected to the
- SGA-WM/BV Monitors;
- operator's Short Message Service Center ("SMSC");
- operator's Network Operating Center ("NOC").
The non-duplicated system architecture is depicted in the figure below
